IBPSA-Scotland and IBPSA-England are pleased to announce their first joint conference, BSO-uSIM 2026. The conference theme is simulating retrofit at scale, addressing how building simulation is helping to upgrade the energy performance of our communities and urban areas to net zero. BSO-uSIM will be hosted by the University of Strathclyde, Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 November, 2026.

BSO-uSIM2026 - Simulating retrofit at scale. With most governments facing the immense challenge of meeting mid-century net zero targets, the need for modelling and simulation to support retrofitting has never been more apparent. BSO-uSIM brings together building performance simulation experts from academia and industry to explore key challenges, highlight new developments, and share best practice to help realise net zero.

Conference Themes
Original contributions are welcome from researchers and practitioners in these indicative areas:
  1. AI, BIM, and new digital tools for urban retrofit
  2. Archetypes and stock modelling at the urban scale
  3. Calibration, validation and uncertainty in urban scale models
  4. Data acquisition for urban scale retrofit modelling and simulation
  5. Heat and multi-vector networks
  1. Modelling green energy sources and technologies for retrofit
  2. Modelling for retrofit policy support
  3. Optimisation at the urban scale
  4. People, place and retrofit
  5. Urban retrofit – case studies in modelling and simulation
Papers in areas related to, or spanning these themes are also welcome.

All successfully reviewed papers will be published in the proceedings, which appear on the IBPSA website.

BSO-uSIM2026 is supported by IBPSA-Scotland, the University of Strathclyde, the University of Edinburgh, Heriot Watt University, Napier University and Newcastle University.
